An Action Cluster is an assembly of partners committing to work on specific issues related to smart cities, by sharing the knowledge and expertise with their peers, giving added-value to their national and local experience and identifying gaps that need to be fulfilled at European level. The work of the each Action Clusters is collected under thematic Initiatives.
The Commission launched an "Invitation for Commitment" application process which closed on 15 June 2014. Interested parties committed to support the objectives of the European Innovation Partnership for Smart Cities and Communities. 441 commitments were submitted by groups of stakeholders spanning the public and private sector out of which 370 were selected to build up the Action Clusters.
The six Action Clusters which have been set up so far are:
- Business Models, Finance and Procurement
- Citizen Focus
- Integrated Infrastructures & Processes (including Open Data)
- Policy & Regulations / Integrated Planning
- Sustainable Districts and Built Environment
- Sustainable Urban Mobility
No new Invitation for Commitments is foreseen for the time being but it is possible to join an Action Cluster or an existing Initiative.
